GTA East GO TransitWith one simple change, GO Transit can significantly improve access to the airport for GTA East (Oshawa, Brooklin, North Ajax, and North Pickering). This same change would provide better access to VIVA Rapid Transit, allowing passengers to quickly get to the TTC Finch Subway Station. What is this change? It's simply switching the location of one bus stop!

Problem – Disconnect With Transit Hub

Route 52 GO Transit Bus services the Northern part of the GTA East including:

  • Pickering North
  • Ajax North
  • Whitby North (Brooklin)
  • Durham College
  • UOIT
  • Oshawa North, Central, and Downtown

The problem is that this bus route does not connect to the 407 Airport GO Transit bus, VIVA Rapid Transit, or York Region Transit. Route 52 stops on the South side of the 407 instead of stopping in the Richmond Hill Centre transit hub. The only way to get from Route 52 to the transit hub is to walk 10 minutes between the two locations.

Solution – Change Location of One Bus Stop

Richmond Hill Centre Go Transit

Changing Route 52 Go Transit bus to stop in the Richmond Hill Centre transit hub instead of at Langstaff GO Station (where no one connects to the train) would provide excellent service for GTA East. There is already a GO Transit bus platform available for an additional bus. The photograph below shows the platform with the Go Transit Airport Express at stop #10, and an empty stop at sign #9.

Benefits of This Change

There are many benefits to this simple change:

  • Improved safety as Go Transit Route 52 no longer needs to cross railway tracks
  • Connections to GO Transit Airport Express providing GTA East access to the airport via public transportation
  • Connections to York Region Transit routes providing greater opportunities for students attending UOIT and Durham College to use pubic transportation to get to and from GO Transit Route 52 (currently students get dropped off and picked up by family and friends)
  • Connections to VIVA rapid transit, allowing GO Transit Route 52 customers access to Finch subway station in less than 20 minutes
  • Connections to VIVA rapid transit and York Region Transit for commuters who work in York Region
